As for hawks, I have personally seen a goshawk catch a crow, and I know that peregrine falcons are capable of the same, though I'm not sure how often that happens in the wild. I would also suggest red-tailed hawk as a possibility - they are very opportunistic and might be successful in a situation where a crow was at a disadvantage. With regard to my question of what bird of prey might have killed a crow on the garage roof this morning...the answer Great Horned Owl...fascinated me. I had not thought of that possibility. This yard is certainly perfect for owls....lots of large pine trees. Has anyone on NatureNS witnessed Great Horned Owls taking crows? Are there hawks here that will also capture and eat crows?
