--Boundary_(ID_qhBTzilWMqOnmFNC2sMnmg) Content-type: text/plain; CHARSET=US-ASCII; delsp=yes; format=flowed Content-transfer-encoding: 7BIT Yes, the usually the chin of a wild mink is white -- and mink against a white background of snow and ice can look black but are usually dark brown -- however, escaped ranch minks, which are fairly widespread in Nova Scotia, I believe, can be quite black and often or usually have dark throats/chins. I once heard a seminar on this by a Natural Resources employee whose name I never recorded, a few years ago, at the Acadia Biology Seminar. Cheers from Jim in Wolfville -- I am copying to a couple of NSDNR biologists for comments on this. P.S. The seal in the original message and photo is a young/yearling? harp seal, confirmed by Ian McLaren.
