On my way home today, I went along the Cobequid Road hoping for some ducks on
Three Mile Lake. There was a flock of mallards (4) and black ducks (about 15)
there, but nothing terribly exciting. I continued along Cobequid Road, and just
across from Shirley Lane, I spotted a medium-sized brownish bird. I stopped to
look and got decent views of a female Northern Cardinal, though she was fairly
shy. There were also quite a few sparrows in the bushes across from Shirley
Lane. I saw four American Tree Sparrows, five White-throated Sparrows and a Song
Sparrow in a pretty small area.

And a few belated reports:

On Monday (after watching the crows come in to roost at MSVU), I heard a flock
of Canada Geese calling as they overhead. It seemed odd, since I thought geese
only flew at night during migration.

My mother saw a flock of about 100 Snow Buntings in Maitland on Saturday.

I spotted a Northern Goshawk in Horne Settlement, quite close to Grand Lake, on
January 11.
