DAVID =20= DUKE. It's everyone's favourite topic, but how much do we really know about =20= the history of weather in our lives? Were winters really colder =93back =20= then=94? Were storms stronger? These are important questions because =20 climate change may be affecting our weather patterns and their impact =20= on our communities may be changing. This presentation offers a weather =20= history of the Annapolis Valley, focussing especially on bad weather =20 such as storms. What was the impact of these storms, and how did =20 communities respond to their impact? What was the effect of provincial =20= and federal involvement in the aftermath of severe weather? In a world =20= of changing climate, what can the Annapolis Valley expect in terms of =20= severe weather and its impact in the future? David Duke is an Associate Professor in the Dept. of History and =20 Classics and also teaches in the Environmental and Sustainability =20 Studies programme at Acadia University. He teaches in the field of =20 environmental history, the history of science and technology, and in =20 Russian and Soviet history. His research focuses on the environmental =20= history of Atlantic Canada. He is currently part of a team =20 investigating the environmental, social, and cultural history of the =20 Tantramar, with particular reference to the Beaubassin area.
