This is a multi-part message in MIME format. --Boundary_(ID_LuK+bvwYUFmMuWQQix63BQ) Content-type: text/plain; CHARSET=US-ASCII Content-transfer-encoding: 7BIT Hope that everyone is hunkered down for the storm. Received an intriguing email message this morning from a contact in another Trails Group. Unfortunately, I didn't check my messages sooner. The message is extracted below: Hi Bob, I understand you are a birder? Assuming so you might be interested in the presence of a snowy egret that has been hanging around Lower East Chezzetcook since (I think) the last wind storm. We saw it twice today as we walked up the road and back. No camera with me unfortunately. The bird is about half the size of a great blue heron. He was hanging with some seagulls on the way out and solo on the way back. Apparently there is sufficient food for now but one worries about its prospects as the ice covers the feeding areas. I forwarded the message to Chris Pepper and wrote back to get a more precise location. My contact's reply: Check this Google map I marked in a few places where it has been seen. A neighbor told my wife about it and she has seen it several times and I saw it twice today myself. It was close to the road but shy when you stopped to look and flew off. We spotted it feeding at low tide and that would be the best time to look for it. Coming back later with the camera the tide had risen and the bird wasn't around. If it is decent enough for a walk tomorrow I will have my camera. I see that it is considered threatened in Connecticut. So obviously anyone in this area should keep an eye out. I'm amazed that the bird has lasted this long!
