Allison and I got out for a couple of hours today to do some 2011 birding in
Cumberland County and saw some nice raptors. In Port Howe on the
Heather's/Cameron's Beach Road we were surprised to see a *Northern
Harrier*(juvenile I think) flying over some corn stubble. It
eventually came to a
perch near Chase's lobster pound. In Linden (almost to Northport) we saw a
crow mobbing two hawks over a field; one was an *adult Red-tailed*, the
second was a *Rough-legged*. It appeared to be intermediate/light phase.
After completing the loop via Shinimicas we spotted a *second Rough-legged
Hawk, *this time in Port Howe, again being harassed by a crow. This was a
definitely a paler individual - pretty much the textbook light phase example
from Sibley. Add a* Bald Eagle* and it was a nice four-raptor winter day.
