This is a multipart message in MIME format. ------=_NextPart_000_0034_01CBA211.3B5D11D0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Yesterday Patricia Chalmers, Dominic Cormier, and I went birding together around Halifax and Dartmouth. We went searching for a number of recent rarities in the area and although we weren't able to find any of them, we managed to see the following. Saint Mary's Boat Club Yellow-breasted Chat - 1 Downy Woodpecker - 1 Song Sparrow - 1 Black Guillemot - 3 Hastings Street Northern Cardinal - 2 White-throated Sparrow - 2 Large accipiter - see below Bisset Lake American Coot - 3 Bufflehead - 4 Common Merganser - 1 Ring-necked Duck - 1 Sullivan's Pond Eurasian Widgeon - 1 American Coot - 2 Baltimore Oriole - 1 (Findlay Park) Cole Harbour Funeral Home Bohemian Waxwings - 28 West Lawrencetown Road American Coot - 3 Conrad's Beach Red-breasted Merganser - 75 Common Goldeneye - 7 Black-headed Gull - 4 Bonaparte's Gull - 10 Bufflehead - 1 Common Eider - 25 Killdeer - 4 Sanderling - 7 The hawk we saw on Hastings Street looked to be rather large to us as we watched it flying around for a few minutes looking for field marks in separating sharpies and coops. Neither Patricia nor I were confident in an identification, but Dominic, who has had experience with Cooper's hawks in Ontario, seemed to believe it appeared more like a Cooper's. I'm not sure how confident he is in the ID, so I will leave it to him to say his thoughts. In any case, keep your eyes up!
