All: With his permission, I have placed an enlarged image of the Greater White-fronted Goose on the E. River, Pictou from a photo obtained 18 Dec. by Ken McKenna during the Springville CBC. It is a first-winter bird in its preformative plumage (now preferred to juvenal or juvenile plumage). Thus it lacks the white area around the bill (this will begin to form in late winter) and the white stripe along the flank is obscure. Its browner overall plumage is a good overall good distinction from the (larger) young Greylag Goose. Also, young Greylags with orange bills lack the dark tip shown on this bird. It's a very nice find. I wonder where it has been staying earlier, and if we are going to get more Iceland/Greenland and now W. Europe (N. Lapwing) surprises. Cheers, Ian Ian McLaren
