Hi,

This morning I went over to Margaretsvillte to try and check on the possible
Pacific loon there. It was cold, windy and snowing, the water was rough, and
the tide was out. Nevertheless, there was 1 Red-necked Grebe, a few C.eiders
and no loons. But there were small flocks of alcids flying well offshore
going NE->SW, and the few I could ID, being closer in, were Razorbills.

This afternoon I went back at high tide, and it was still windy and snowing,
but a little less so. I got a tantalizingly brief glimpse of a loon fairly
close in, but after it dove, I couldn't re-locate it at all. I got the
impression of a rather small loon that was predominantly dark, didn't seem
to have much white on the face, didn't seem to hold its bill pointing
upwards, but overall it had the rather dainty "jizz" of a Red-throated.
Whatever it was, I believe we should continue to check it out. The only
other birds were a single Long-tailed duck and some fly-by W-W scoter.

Richard
