Hi All
Seasons Greetings to all on the list.
It is my hope that everyone had many interesting observations in 2010
and will continue to enjoy Outdoor NS in the future.
My most interesting findings were botanical. Both in remote parts of Lunenburg County by canoe.
A - Elm Tree - A very healthy tree about 12 - 14 meters in height. Guestimated and about 30 cms in diameter at chest height. This tree is growing on a meadow near a stream and is clothed with branches almost to the ground. Not like the umbrella types seen on cleared flood plains. Perhaps the isolated area accounts for its health but they are becoming rare - healthy ones that is.
2 - Buttonbush - a clump out on a meadow along a wide part of a stream. This is reputed to be the farthest North East this schrub has been observed in the wild. There maybe others in cultivation.
Both of these are well protected by squadrons of black flies but if anyone should desire to visit them, let me know after July 4 and we could do so.
All the best for 2011
Paul
