Northern Lapwings

Over the past three days single Northern Lapwings have appeared in
Connecticut, Massachusetts and Newfoundland. It would seem that there may
have been a small flight and severe weather in Great Britain is likely to
send more westward. Check short-grass fields and lawns near coastal sites -
Lapwings have habitat requirements somewhat similar to Killdeer.

Good Birding,

Stu Tingley
Shediac, NB
........
To add to what Stuart has mentioned about Lapwing habitat, they sometimes
visit saltmarshes if there is open brackish water nearby...and they often
appear at airports. Lapwings are sociable birds. I have seen them with
gulls in Britain, so any Ring-billed Gull flocks should be checked.
