Hi; Patricia Chalmers and I stopped in Spryfield around 11:30 am today (Friday, 12th) to look for the Vireo. We parked on Thornhill Dr. just past the foot of Athlone, across from the first driveway into the Church; and checked the top of the footpath.(East side of Thornhill across from Church). Nothing. We worked our way down the steep path checking all the multiflora bushes - nothing - no Chat. Then I started along the path to the left, and about 50 meters ahead of me on the righthand side (East - towards the Highway)) I saw a tiny pale grayish bird basking in the sun on the branches of a red-leafed shrub. (close to a white house). From a distance it looked a little bit like a Tennessee Warbler, but Fulton had warned us that the Vireo was very light and drab looking - like an Orange-crowned or Tennessee. The bird dropped down out of sight and no amount of pishing brought it up again. Pat and I carefully walked in a ways to check lower branches, but no luck. Given the fact that no one else saw the Vireo today, this May or May Not have been the Bell's Vireo. Suzanne Borkowski
