I spent about 1.5 hours and really did not turn much up so I left just after 9 with a goal to check out the barge aground off Pictou Lodge in the afternoon. I decided after that to check the coastal areas for geese as far as Pugwash. It was very windy for finding passerines Thurs.. Here are my highlights for the day: Northern Pintail- 4 Lower Barneys River Black-bellied Plover- 4 Big I. Dunlin-19 Big I. Sanderling-12 Big I. Bonaparte's Gull-165 Big I. Common Eider-50+ River John (not a common bird in this village) Ring-billed Gull- 500+ Brule Northern Harrier- 1 first year bird? Brule Pt. Black-bellied Plover-5 Brule golf course Dunlin-7 Brule golf course Golden Plover-1 Brule golf course Double-crested Cormorant-5 Barrachois Common Goldeneye-80 Barrachois White-rumped Sandpiper-11 Waterside PP Great Blue Heron-1 Waterside PP Short-eared Owl- 1 Waterside PP- 5:00 p.m. There were flocks of Canada Geese usually 250-500 birds at Lower Barney's River, Haliburton ( Rollie MacDonald's field near Pictou Rotary, Brule Pt., Amet farm in Brule, and Fox Harbour. A quick look at each flock failed to come up with anything out of the ordinary. I should have waited longer at Big I. in the morning as Steve and Amber Vines came up with 3 Dovekie, 1 adult LITTLE GULL, 1 Black-headed Gull, and a Storm Petrel sp. All were seen near the causeway to the island. I don't think I have ever seen a Dovekie in Pictou Co., so I missed a good one! For the record, Tim Brennan reports seeing a Yellow-billed Cuckoo between Hillside and Pictou Landing in the last week of October. He also has a male and female Cardinal at his feeder in Pictou Landing usually seen near dusk. On Mon. Nov. 8, I saw 8 Harlequin (4 male, 4 fem.) and an adult Lesser Black-backed Gull at Sober I. (HRM). cheers Ken --Boundary_(ID_Hwij1FIA4pHz+im11j8NPQ) Content-type: text/html; CHARSET=US-ASCII Content-transfer-encoding: 7BIT <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <HTML><HEAD> <META content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" http-equiv=Content-Type> <META name=GENERATOR content="MSHTML 8.00.6001.18975"> <STYLE></STYLE> </HEAD> <BODY bgColor=#ffffff> <DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>Ken McKenna<BR>Box 218 Stellarton NS<BR>B0K 1S0<BR>902 752-7644<BR>Hi all <DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>With strong NE winds over the last while, I headed to Big I. early Nov. 11 to see if any seabirds were blown in.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>I spent about 1.5 hours and really did not turn much up so I left just after 9 with a goal to check out the barge aground </FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>off Pictou Lodge in the afternoon.
