I arrived at the North River gravel pit this morning shortly after 7:15AM and the Greylag Goose was swimming with the Canada Geese south of the "weigh in" shack. I waited for a few minutes in the hopes they would lift off and proceed to the adjacent field but no action, so I left to check out other areas.

I returned later and there were a number of birders now present, so I waited in my car by the gravel pit entrance for some action. Just as I was about to leave the Greylag Goose came out of the water and posed on a gravel heap.

I've attached a bunch of photos with the usual technical flaws due to the extreme cropping and enlargement required but nonetheless I am satisfied that barring a fluke this was as close as I can reasonably expect to get to this wild bird.

But the relentless rain and sedentary birding has been gnawing at my "Esprit de Corp", so it's time for a hike on the coastal barrens of the Pennant Peninsula, ...tomorrow, so I can breath again.

Hans
