Yesterday (Sunday 17 October) Harold Forsyth and I were able to see very well the Hudsonian Godwit among a flock of 60+ Black Bellied Plovers and one Golden Plover. The flock was on a fresh sprouted grain field on the east side of the road to Long Island. The flock was roosting on this field and the Godwit mostly slept with its bill tucked under its wing. It did however move a couple of times so we were able to see its wings, bill and tail. The tide was just falling, there were other small flocks of plovers further away in other fields so there is the possibility of other shorebird species. On the shore at the Guzzle there were only a few shorebirds visible in the strong wind in the distance. On the water only a few Eiders were visible. When we returned the Plovers and Godwit had flown from the field, presumably to feed on the now exposed mudflats. George Forsyth
