This morning I saw a gray catbird fly across my driveway and conveniently land
in a spot where I was able to get an excellent look at it. That's the first
catbird I've seen in my yard.

This evening, my mother had a close view of a group of four woodcock on a muddy
section of the driveway. She's seen woodcock before, and thought these were
about half the size of adult woodcock. Three scuttled into the bushes, but one
ran alongside her car for a short distance, giving her a good view at close
range. I went out immediately after she arrived, but I couldn't find the birds.
It seems awfully late for half-grown woodcock to be about. I'll see if I can
find them tomorrow morning.
