Hi Steve,
I've seen buffalo treephoppers around my place fairly often over the summer. I
can't remember the last time I saw any in the garden - perhaps a couple of weeks
ago. I shot photos of one back on July 24. Here are links to a couple of the
shots:

Subject: [NatureNS] treehopper discoverers-dates site?
A while back, Chris Majka put me on to a site where one can check the current
approved 2-part Latin name of a N. American fly (Nomina Diptera Nearctica). The
lists of names there also come, usefully, with the name of the individual who
first named that species, and the date of this.
Does Chris or anyone else know a site that works similarly for bugs,
Hemiptera-Heteroptera? My colleague is back here looking at jumping feats in
jumping bugs (actually treehoppers, Membracidae) for which we think we know the
genus+species names for several species, but don't know the discoverer/date.
BugGuide.net doesn't give this info.
Also, has anybody recently come across, in the same group, any buffalo
treehoppers recently (Ceresa tauriniformis), a rather large spectacular green
insect with 2 `horns` at the front that inhabits low vegetation? I found a
couple last year at this date, but we have drawn a blank so far this year.
Steve
