A reminder that from now on is the season for vagrant western  
hummingbirds, so they should be studied closely and photo'd if  
possible. Males are easy, females not. E.g.: a blue-green back (rather  
than golden-green), especially long billed female, with marked tail  
pumping might suggest Black-throated; rufous on flanks and tail is a  
clear alert for species other than Rufous; and large body size cf.  
Ruby-throated might be noted.
