Hurricane Wilma in 2005 came very much later in the year - late Oct.  
& early Nov., I believe -- so that especially swallows and swifts  
would have been hard pressed to find food.  But gulls are a different  
kettle of fish and are probably pretty hardy and adaptable at finding  
something to eat, including French fries and burgers etc.  Cheers
