I wasn't sure I believed her, but I know that Doug Hennigar does know the birds. Yesterday and today at about 4:30 p.m. I saw the osprey sitting on a tall dead birch stub on the east side of the pond beside his cook house, it doesn't seem to fear people as they walk on the path below the tree. The bird flies freely, swoops over the pond and the many mallards in the pond, and has been seen to catch some of the large goldfish that have populated this pond in recent years. Doug believes that people must have released some unwanted aquarium fish, but they have survived the past few winters.
