--Boundary_(ID_fJEXxxMNcfdz0yvDQ6gNqw) Content-type: text/plain; CHARSET=US-ASCII; delsp=yes; format=flowed Content-transfer-encoding: 7BIT SEPT. 8, 2010 - Yesterday we had a male purple finch at the feeders, and we continue to have 3+ brown purple finches (females or immatures). Yesterday and today we had 2 n. cardinals: a molting female and the orange-coloured immature? male (this male shows a lot of brown on the nape and back and sides), and I think he may be very gradually changing to a reddish-orange. Also present have been a molting cock pheasant, a molting crow (scruffy nape), about 6 goldfinches (2 days ago I noticed that males are molting back into winter plumage), 5+ bl.-c. chickadees, 6 blue jays, 4 mourning doves, 1-2 red-breasted nuthatches, 1 downy woodpecker, a flicker, and occasionally a red squirrel and Norway rat. At high tide (1:17 p.m.) I checked the power line over the Gaspereau River at Hortonville (north side of hwy. 101), and perched there were 28 double-crested cormorants, the majority of which were juveniles or immatures. Also at Hortonville there was a n. harrier. Then, about a half-hour after high tide, I visited the Windsor sewage ponds. I estimated about 150+ black-bellied plovers, but I couldn't see any other shorebirds. There were about 50 black ducks and lots of gulls, of which there were dozens of ring-billed gulls. In Wolfville Harbour at about an hour after high tide, roosting on the rocky bank below the railroad tracks, I saw about 28 greater yellowlegs, 1 lesser yellowlegs, 3 willets, 1 dowitcher (short- billed?), and 25+ peeps (small sandpipers). SEPT 9, 2010 - Today at high tide (2 p.m.) there were 32 double- crested cormorants perched on the power line over the Gaspereau River at Hortonville ( film PHOTO taken).
