Hi Everyone;

I took a run out to McCormack's Beach and Hartlen Point yesterday.  About 5:00 pm McCormack's Beach was crowded with people swimming and dogs running into the water - very few birds.  I drove a little further to the pull off (almost to the foot of Redoubt Way) and saw the Sandwich Tern slowly fly past me.  A lifer!

Hartlen Point had lots of shorebirds including Bairds and one Ruddy Turnstone.  I saw the Military police ticketing a small red car and stopped to ask them if parking was not allowed by the gate.  I was told No; and furthermore no one was allowed to walk in there along the path to the tower and back cove.  There's a No Trespassing sign on the gate.  I explained what we (birders) were looking for: post Earl rarities, and they gave me a number to call to ask for permission to enter but they didn't sound hopeful.  I can give this number to anyone who wants it if you write to me offline.

Coming back from Hartlen Point I saw the Magnificent Frigatebird flying just overhead.  This would be at the foot of Oceanlea Drive.  It was slowly meandering towards Hartlen Point.  This was around 6:00 pm.?  Jean Hartley and I must have been very close to each other.

Cheers;
Suzanne
