--=====================_449712734==.ALT Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; format=flowed Hi all; In the past several days my squirrel-proof sunflower seed feeder has been overtaken by mobs of Red-breasted Nuthatches, many more than my usual resident pair (plus offspring). This would not be a problem were they not such fussy birds, but they discard 10 to 20 seeds for every one that they finally select. For the birds (and squirrels) waiting on the ground below the falling uneaten seeds are manna, so the seeds do not go to waste, but I am having to refill the large feeder almost daily, and the Purple Finches and Goldfinches are annoyed, as the nuthatches are very aggressive. In fact, I've rarely seen nuthatches in such a feeding frenzy, and I suspect they are fuelling up for a flight south. Has anyone else noted this frenzy of late?
