I have finished installation of my first new Bluebird nesting box, =
following the plans give here: =
http://www.nabluebirdsociety.org/eastwestbox.htm

It is a good time to install boxes, because (according to some experts) =
Bluebirds use their fall migration to look for prospective nesting sites =
for the following spring. Also, installing the box in the fall will =
allow it to weather naturally, and it will be ready in time for the =
first arrivals in the spring.

Bluebirds have returned to nest in Nova Scotia in recent years. Because =
Bluebirds are still uncommon here, there are few nesting boxes waiting =
for them. It is probable that the shortage of appropriate nesting sites =
is a limitation for the species.

There is much good Bluebird habitat in the province. For example, I =
once came across a well-tended (mowed) graveyard next to an abandoned =
apple orchard. It was near Avondale in Hants County. The setting was =
just perfect for Bluebirds, yet there were none there =97 probably for =
lack of boxes.

If you wish to build and install a nesting box, I have prepared a pdf =
file of notes on my experience with this project. I will send you a =
copy as an email attachment on request. The file-size is 1.4 MB. The =
notes come complete with pictures and freely expressed opinions, along =
with practical suggestions which may prove useful.=
