10 August 2010

When Eric Mills and I were in Canso today, we learned from Tom
Kavanaugh that Parks Canada now offers a one-hour+ boat trip around
the Canso Isles, for the attractive price of $5 per person. This
trip, in addition to being quite scenic, offers the opportunity to
view seabirds, shorebirds, and seals. Highlights of today's trip
were many kittiwakes, Black Guillemots, Common Eiders, Gray Seals,
Ruddy Turnstones, etc. And the seabird activity can become quite
intense when bait fish are active inshore. The trips will run until
mid-September. To learn more contact the Park Visitor Centre. 902-295-2069

Cheers,
