It is not at all rare for birds to sing songs that sound like different species (and I'm not just talking about known mimics such as Mockingbirds). Or sometimes they just mess around a bit. I imagine if a Chipping Sparrow "broke" its trill, it would sound very much like a Clay-colored Sparrow.
