Dear All, Jul 22, 2010
This topic comes up from time to time so I will perhaps repeat myself.

It seems to me counterproductive to strive for some inelastic rule that
defines the scope of acceptable posts to Naturens; assuming civility and
good manners.

Worrying too much about whether or not something fits could I think lead
to dead air and/or deadly boring content.

Those posts that push the envelope, not being minor variants of the
previous thousand posts, add welcome spice.

For example, a recent Nature of Things included a description of
deep-sea hot vents; many life forms in spite of very high temperature (300 ?
or 600 ? oC).

Can anyone on Naturens explain how proteins and especially enzymes can
tolerate these extreme temperatures ? Is the effect of temperature on
protein denaturation dependent upon pressure and oxygen; e.g. high pressure
and low O2 moderating the effect of high temperature ?

Yty, Dave Webster, Kentville
