Fall shorebird migration is upon us, and for those who wish to hone their skills a bit further, there is an excellent primer available online, courtesy of the Ontario Field Ornithologist, written by Ron Pittaway. While designed for that province, most of the information also applies equally to the Maritimes and Newfoundland. For those with killer optics, there is a lot of detail on juvenile shorebirds, as well as when to first expect adults, followed later by hatch-year birds.
