Hi all, This morning there was a Philadelphia Vireo just off the Old Guysborough Road just before Goffs, and three Turkey Vultures (being mobbed by a Broad-winged Hawk) east of highway 118 about 2km before its junction with highway 102. Detailed directions to the vireo are below. If anyone re-sights these birds, it'd be great if they could post the details to help figure out their breeding status. Right now the vireo's just an H (sighted in suitable habitat), and the vultures a P (pair in suitable habitat; couldn't make out the age of all three birds). Cheers, Andy Horn Halifax Vireo directions: Heading north on the Old Guysborough Road past the airport, you'll go straight paralleling the airport, then the road gets a bit twisty, then you pass NavCanada on your left, after which the road straightens a bit. Now look for a yellow left curve sign, and pull into a gravel parking area on your right just before the next yellow sign, which says "Caution Blowing Snow." This spot is at roughly 461000E, 4969500N. Follow the dirt road that leads from the parking area, for only about 50m (i.e., before the trees along the left of it get tall and the road curves to the right). On your left you'll pass some aspens, then some alders, then tallish grey birch, then you're there -- a spot where there's a sandy sort of turn-around with an old truck headlight frame and two thick logs. The bird was seen there on both sides of the road -- silent when I saw it (though watch out; there's plenty of Red-eyed Vireos around here, too).
