IAll:

I agree with Randy Lauff that this sounds like the male call of a  
Virginia Rail. Altho' much, much less likely, the King Rail has a  
somewhat similar call, perhaps a little less grunting, but as  
deep-pitched.

These sounds are available for on-line Googling at a number of sites.
