--0-616180687-1275778516=:39718 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii There was finally some decent moth activity on the evening of June 2nd. Until this week, nights have really been a bit too chilly. Hopefully that is about to change sometime soon. On June 2nd, I photographed a good number of moths and have since added them to a gallery that I'm keeping for species found on this property: http://www.pbase.com/crocodile/round_hill_moths There were a few new-to-me moths I haven't seen in Ontario. Also some for which I have some reservations about the IDs - in those cases, the species names are followed by a (?). If anyone wishes to take a stab at the IDs, or offer corrections on other IDs, please feel free to do so. Also this week, one of my dogs found a Nessus Sphinx (Amphion floridensis) in the garden clinging to some Gill-over-the-Ground. What was interesting (to me) is that this one was seen on the morning of June 2nd. In past years, I've photographed Nessus Sphinx in eastern Ontario - one hovering over Dame's Rocket - also on June 2nd - and another found resting on an evergreen branch on June 5th. It will be interesting to see if other species of moths appear at about the same date as they did in eastern Ontario. Anyhow, here are links to a couple of views of the Nessus for anyone who might be interested. http://www.pbase.com/crocodile/image/125214051 http://www.pbase.com/crocodile/image/125214050 Bev Wigney Round Hill, N.S.
