So the seal cull may have been planned on a now or never basis. (Or could it be a hoax ?) Along these same lines, a neighbour who had been converted to the merits of having broad-leaved 'weeds' on his lawn (to the point of asking for some Forget-me-not seed about 10 years ago) went over to the dark side this year and had his lawn sprayed with herbicide for the first time; now or never can be convincing. I know less about seals than most but have noticed that protesting the hunt is a great way to raise money but feeds only the protestors. Intuitively, I tend to side with fishing industry interests because profitable primary industry is the driving force that pays the bills of an economy. Yt, Dave Webster, Kentville ----- Original Message ----- From: Fritz McEvoy To: NS NATURE Sent: Thursday, May 27, 2010 8:52 AM Subject: [NatureNS] seal cull on Sable Island Hi All, I don't have a strong opinions on the seal hunt one way or the other but the DFO plan to cull seals on Sable Island that The Coast & CBC are reporting on this morning is so over the top as to be laughable. The fact that it comes to light a few days after the island has been named as the latest National Park is a public relations disaster on a scale is hard to imagine outside the BP handling of the gulf oil spill. I expect the walk back to be fast and furious but whomever in DFO thought this was even worthy consideration let alone putting out a report with maps and photos deserves an award for PR ineptitude. Let the outrage begin. All the best. Fritz McEvoy Sunrise Valley, CB ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ MSN Dating: Find someone special. Start now.
