I have to agree with Randy and Jim, that was a predator/prey interaction and
livetrapping and releasing wildlife never works out well for that animal or
its young if they have any. Most relocated animals are either killed by
inhabitants of the new territory, try to get back to their old territory, or
do poorly and often die in their new territory as they arent familiar with
the food resources and often cant fight for the new territory. This has been
proven scientifically with satellite tagged animals. It is always better to
practice exclusion or to discourage in a non-lethal way

my 2 cents only

I agree with Jim, and I've said it before in this forum (and received
angry responses)..."predation" is not "murder".

Live trapping the chipmunk, and relocating it, will result in a slow death
by starvation of its young. And that is closer to murder than anything the
chipmunk did.

  Sincerely,
  Randy

    Hi all:

As a follow up I received another email. There were two young left
which were later murdered also by the chipmunk. The issue with the intruder
has been taken care of as suggested with a live trap. The pair appear to be
attempting a re-nest. We shall see.

    Sincerely,

    James R. Hirtle
