This morning before I got up (about 5:50 a.m.) I could hear Blackpoll Warblers singing in my backyard. They were still singing when I went out later, but I couldn't see them; they must have been very high up in the big ashes. This is a typical date for them to pass through Halifax, in my experience. This afternoon I went for a walk around the Frog Pond in Fleming Park in Jollimore. I was hoping to find more warblers, but there were few in evidence; only a couple each of Yellow-rumped and Black-and-white Warblers, and a single Black-throated Green Warbler. However a Pied-billed Grebe was on the pond, the first I have seen there this year. Usually at least one turns up every spring. Cheers, Patricia L. Chalmers
