MAY 16, 2010 - Lovely Sunny day but windy, and Pat & I had a short
walk this afternoon in Palmeter's Woods in w. Kentville.

Birds seen or heard: e. phoebe singing near the first bridge on the
path, I saw both least flycatcher and northern parula warbler
delivering their songs, several yellow-rumped warblers, black-capped
chickadee, robins, downy woodpecker.

Flowers: bunchberry, starflower, wild sarsaparilla or Aralia just
starting, serviceberry or shadbush, pin cherry, apple, flowering
crab?, wild strawberry, and, on lawns, pussy-toes and thyme-leaved
speedwell.
-----------------
In the evening at dusk we looked out at the feeders just before I
went out to bring them into our shed for the night, because of
raccoons. And guess what? One raccoon was hanging on and eating
sunflower seeds from one feeder, and a second raccoon was on the
ground getting the spills from the upper one! Actually my raccoons
have been very polite of late, having learned how to empty the
sunflower-seed feeders without damaging them.

Cheers from Jim in Wolfville
