--Boundary_(ID_Geya3o5VE9tY6FUx0fgtug) Content-type: text/plain; CHARSET=US-ASCII; delsp=yes; format=flowed Content-transfer-encoding: 7BIT MAY 13, 2010 - CBC Radio News: a young beluga whale has been photographed on a cell phone by a fisherman who works out of St. Martin's, N.B., in the Bay of Fundy. Cathy Kinsman of the Whale Stewardship Project was quoted that 20 young belugas have turned up outside the normal range of the species in the past 12 years -- she started the stewardship project in 1998 when "Wilma" was discovered at Guysborough. Google the project for info' on it and on her. She guesses that this one somehow got separated from its pod, the closest of which would be in the St. Lawrence Seaway where the Saguenay River joins the big tidal estuary. This beluga, like most of them when alone, has been attracted to boats and apparently has been reported by fishers for a couple of months? or so. Also on today's news: the N.S. NDP government has decided to extend the moratorium on oil and gas exploration on Georges' Bank from 2012 to 2015, and that a full public review would be necessary for any change in this protection (the U.S. portion of Georges Bank has had the moratorium extended to 2017, and the U.S. portion of the bank is 80% vs. about 20% controlled by Canada).
