Hi all
I was checking out my feeder in Plymouth, Pict. after work tonight (May 5) and was surprised to see a male Rose-breasted Grosbeak. This is by far the earliest date I have had this species in the neighbourhood. They are local breeders.
Buoyed by this sighting, I decided to check the Temperance St.school for Chimney Swifts at dusk. I was sure I was going to see some as I could see 3-4 flying over the East River across the road as I left my house. I arrived at the school at 8:15 and soon had 3-4 flying around. It was about 12C, clear skies and calm. The first bird entered at 8:28, 2 more at 8:38 and 41 more between 8:44-8:45 for a total of 44. Nice to see the swifts back again.
cheers
Ken
