All: Maxine Quinton in Chester Basin has been hosting at least one and perhaps more of a very rare plumage variant of Purple Finch. The photo of one I have put with permission on NS-RBA photos is evidely a subadult male with yellow-tinged feathering, instead of the usual raspberry, on the rump and uppertail coverts, crown. and parts of upper breast. This condition is occasional in House Finches, but I've never seen one in PUFI Sibley noters it as "very rare" and yjhe authoritive "Birds of North America" only mentions it in passing. It would be great to see one if it achieves full adult plumage. Cheers, Ian
