APR. 21, 2010 - Gorgeous Sunny & warm day (15 C.) and again a "Spring-
like" rebound.

In Canning: large-toothed aspen poplar catkins open and drooping
conspicuously at the Legion along the river; 40+ Canada geese in and
along the river; several basking painted turtles in Harris' Pond, and
a single FEMALE red-winged blackbird; and an occupied raven nest
high in a lone pine a bit west of the Borden House, i.e. Merritt
Gibson's house, along Main St. west of downtown.

The raven nest was a pleasant surprise at mid-day. I and others have
wondered what became of the ravens that used to nest in deciduous
trees right above Canning's Main Street west of town up to just 2-3
years ago. It turns out that probably they didn't move very far at
all! I was walking along the street and would probably not have
noticed it, but the incubating raven up there called loudly and got
my attention -- thank you! Maybe Merritt or Glenys Gibson or Ian
Paterson will tell us now how long that nest has been there and active?

Port Williams sewage ponds: at least 3-5 tree swallows, and 5 male
mallards.

APR. 22, 2010 - EARTH DAY!! (goes back to 1970?). Do something
environmentally useful!! I usually at least pick up a couple of re-
used plastic bags' or other bags' worth of litter at least!!

Cheers from Jim in Wolfville
