APR. 20, 2010 - Today on Maritime Noon, CBC Radio One, there was an
interesting reference to one phone call to Marnoon last Friday, Apr.
16, when Bob Bancroft was on about wildlife. Someone called to
report a sighting of a "mountain goat?" somewhere along Highway 101,
and I think the white goat with brown markings was reaching up a tree
trunk? and that a deer was also present? Today on the show Costas
reported that an Upper Nine Mile River farmer-woman named Shelley ?
had called in and she was 99.9% sure she knew what it was: a male
BOER GOAT (South African) that had escaped from them on arrival 4.5
years ago! Apparently it is surviving very well and keeping company
with deer. She said it's quite large and weighs about 400 pounds and
has backward-pointing and curved horns. Use Google.com to find the
Wikipedia site for "Boer Goat" to see several photos plus info'.
(Upper Nine Mile River is south of Kennetcook in Hants County.)

Cheers from Jim in Wolfville, avid CBC listener
