On Good Friday, while returning from N.S. Nature Trust's gorgeous =
Shelter Cove property, a bunch of us canoed by a large flock of geese in =
the middle of Tangier Harbour. The sun was low and it was misty in the =
evening, so I was unable to check their plumage. All i could see were =
silhouettes.
There were hundreds of them on the water, in fairly tight rafts, =
making unmistakable goose noises. But the honking was pitched higher and =
the birds looked much smaller than regal Canada geese. What species were =
they? Brants? Any educated guesses?
