My first Mayflower (Epigaea repens) flowers of the season were spotted yesterday along a secondary power line cut used as a trail by local school kids, just 100 m behind our house in Clayton Park West. Seems most appropriate to see it on 1 April since the blooming time given in the Plant Watch booklet is April to May. Judging from the number of buds on the extensive patch, this will be a very good year for this species.

I'll have to check out Belchers Marsh for spring peepers this evening.

Big chorus of peepers here last night, for the first time this spring.
