Hi all
Steve Vines and I did a little birding/atlassing Sunday afternoon ( Mar. 21) in Pictou Co. A Bald Eagle was sitting on a nest off the MacBeth Rd. in Plymouth. We did not observe any Double-crested Cormorants at the Pictou Causeway or along the Pictou Harbour. We watched a Common Raven carrying sticks to a half-built nest at the intersection of the Priests Rd. and the overpass of the TCH 106 ( Caribou Ferry Rd.).
Pictou Harbour had hundreds of Red-breasted Mergansers. The Bald Eagle was sitting on the nest at the Seaview cemetery in Pictou.
A pair of Eagles at the Granton turnoff from the TCH 106 were sitting side-by side in a pine not far from a known nest.
There were hundreds of American Robins in fields particularly in the Poplar Hill-Scotsburn area and there were also scores of Common Grackles, Red-winged Blackbirds and Song Sparrows.
A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen along the McBain Rd. in a cut-over area and nearby a pair of Pileated Woodpeckers was behaving quite territorial. White-winged Crossbills were present along that road as well, but quite quiet compared to when I first observed them in January.

On Sat. evening ( Mar.20), I did some owling in the West River Station and had a Northern Saw-whet Owl calling about 9 p.m. I had Woodcock opposite Saltsprings PP and in also in Watervale at dusk. A Barred Owl called near 10 pm from behind the wood mill along Rte. 4 in Central West River. Atlas season is cranking up!
cheers
Ken
