19 March 2010

Spring is a day away, the ground is bare of snow, and it is very
warm. I was surprised, therefore, to have a Fox Sparrow at my feeder
this afternoon, for they are much more likely to appear during a cold
and snowy March, and this March has been anything but.

When we lived in Newfoundland Martine and I always thought that the
return of the Fox Sparrows heralded "spring" (usually in mid-April),
but I was pleased to have one here today, heralding our early spring
in Nova Scotia.

Regards,

Blake
