I was outside about 6:30 p.m. checking out Venus (now bright, low in the west after sundown), then it occurred to me that the ISS is also in the evening sky. I rushed in to check its schedule and was excited to see that it was about to make a super long, high pass in such a clear sky; thus the very last minute heads-up! It was indeed a very nice, long pass. First spotted about 7:10 p.m. low, coming out of the WSW, looking reddish. about 7:13 it was passing NW of the Pleiades and moments later it passed within a degree of Capella (the fairly bright star just about overhead). By then it was very bright and yellowish-white in colour. The pass continued into the ENE until it hit Earth's shadow about 7:15:45. As a point of interest, it took about 80 seconds for the ISS to go from overhead above Yarmouth, to overhead above the northern tip of Cape Breton. The pass tomorrow night will be lower to the north (36 degrees high - max) and because it does not happen until after 7:37 it will hit the shadow sooner along its path. The pass Monday evening between 6:25 and 6:30 p.m. Will be quite similar to the track tonight, however, the sky will still be fairly bright.
