I looked up as a bird crashed into the window just now, and saw it was a
Mourning Dove in the clutches of a beautiful Sharp-Shinned Hawk. The
Hawk held the Dove on the driveway for about 30 seconds, when an
opportunistic Am. Crow arrived on the scene. The Hawk ruffed up its
feathers, and turned its body to almost cover the dying dove. The Crow
jumped around harrassing the hawk, and as the crow made a snatch for the
prey, the dove managed an escape. I don't think it will last long. The
crow and hawk each flew to a tree by the parking area (at 11 Balcome),
and had some choice words for each other. I am going out now to see what
became of the dove.
