FEB. 18, 2010 - At the feeder 1.3 km. east of Hwy. 358 along Saxon St., about 3 of the Savannah sparrows were there today (vs. 15 a week ago). I carefully checked the Port Williams sewage ponds at high tide today at 4 p.m., but somehow the 10 goldeneyes present noticed my bulky frame and red jacket peaking around the sewage treatment building I was using for cover. All the goldeneyes identified were commons, but I didn't get a long enough look to be sure. Also present were about a half-dozen male mallards, and with them a darkish female mallard (or black? or "hybrid"?) showed a vertical white stripe across her left wing -- this vertical white mark was very noticeable, only on the left side, and was about halfway back from the front end.
