I can't comment on why the preroost didn't happen, but I don't think  
nesting activities/courtship etc. might be to blame -- yes,  
definitely so for ravens here in The Valley at this time of year --  
ravens often are incubating eggs at the end of February, I believe,  
but I need to consult Bernard Forsythe.
