I just noticed a solitary golden-crowned kinglet slowly foraging in the trees and shrubs beside the house in the sunny, windy -8C temperature. I've never seen one here before at this time of year. No other birds around except a few blue jays, mourning doves, many chickadees and goldfinches, a few RB nuthatches and male and female downy woodpeckers, not to mention the ever present crows and herring gulls. A lone Canada goose was feeding on the mud flats at low tide in the harbour yesterday. Ken MacAulay Port Mouton, NS
