I myself have n= ever heard of a brown creeper doing things as below. This could I believe = be some unknown habits for a brown creeper which would also interest the sc= ientific world. =20 =20 Sincerely=2C =20 James =20 I now live in Laconia and keep an interested eye out for birds always. no= thing unusual has ever been noticed there however this winter (or starting = in the fall actually) we have had a rather interesting visitor. We began n= oticing a small brown stripey bird in the horse barn in the evening and mor= ning=2C it was too dark to identify it and we assumed it had simply wandere= d in=2C although it happened rather often. shortly after this=2C when we w= ould open the chicken coop in the morning s small bird would whoosh by our = heads on it's way out of the coop=2C after several mornings of this happeni= ng I paid closer attention to it=2C it was a brown creeper and every evenin= g it would be there roosted on the rafters of the coop. In the morning it = would hop down on the roost with the chickens or on the window sill and fin= ally out the door=2C if it was still too dark out to go outside=2C he staye= d inside with the chickens and went out there ground floor "hatch" door lat= er on when it was light out. He even accessed the coop that way on occasio= n. Then one moring he wasn't there=2C I was alarmed as to where he could b= e=2C and my husband assured me he had seen him around the property (he is t= he only brown creeper we have seen although we have numerous nuthatches). = He frequents our wood piles of course. Sure enough the next morning he who= oshed by our heads but not from the coop=2C from our basement steps! these= are closed in (roofed over) and have wood piled along the steps. After r= outinely seeing him there every morning we noticed a batt of fiber glass pi= nk insulation stored on a shelf over the steps that had a rather definite "= borrow" tunneled into it. that evening we shone our flashlight in it and t= here he was! snuggled in as nice as can be! I think this is rather smart = for a bird to figure all of this out=2C but perhaps this is common behavio= ur for them. We figured you would know about that and might be interested= in hearing about it. =20 _________________________________________________________________ Ready. Set. Get a great deal on Windows 7.
